Asbestosis

This is scarring of the lung (fibrosis) caused by asbestos exposure.  For the fibrosis to be attributed to asbestos exposure, it is necessary to prove that the amount of exposure has been sufficient to cause the disease.  As such, it is normally found in workers with moderate to heavy asbestos exposures such as shipyard workers, power station workers and building trades.

It causes brethelessness and coughing.  The extent of the disease and its rate of progression varies enormously between individuals but is generally slow and can stabilise.

Compensation and benefits may be claimed.
